ALPENA — The Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan recently awarded a new round of Community Impact grants and Northeast Michigan Women’s Giving Circle grants covering a four-county area that includes Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency and Presque Isle counties. The board of trustees recently approved 59 new grants totaling $110,365.

New Community Impact grants totaling $79,292 include:

¯ Alcona Community Schools — $2,500 for the Alcona Middle and High School 6-12 Student Locker project;

¯ Alcona Community Schools — $2,500 for the Alcona Backpack program;

¯ Alcona Baby Pantry — $2,000 for the Children’s Safety at Home and Outside project;

¯ Alpena Childcare and Development Center — $2,000 for the ACDC Outside Learning Classroom project;

¯ Alpena Childcare and Development Center — $1,500 for the Multipurpose Room Noise Reduction Panels project;

¯ Alpena County — $3,500 for the Alpena Plaza Pool Operations project;

¯ Alpena County — $3,000 for the PIVOT Supplemental Funding project;

¯ Alpena Figure Skating Club — $1,000 for the First Year Skater project;

¯ Rogers City Community Schools — $3,338 for the Cultural and Diverse Library Books for Rogers City Elementary School Library project;

¯ Rogers City Community Theatre, Inc. — $1,500 for the Short-Throw Video Projector project;

¯ Rogers City Police Department — $3,498 for the Rogers City Police Department 800 Megahertz Portable Radio Purchase;

¯ Sanborn Township — $2,304 for the Shin-ga-ba Shores Playmat for Safe Children project;

¯ St. Ignatius Parish School — $2,000 for the Updating our Social Studies Curriculum with Current Materials project;

¯ St. Paul Lutheran Church — $2,500 for the Hubbard Lake Child Day Care Center project;

¯ Thunder Bay Folk Society, Inc. — $2,000 for the 7th Annual Thunder Bay Folk Festival project;

¯ Thunder Bay River Center — $2,400 for the Managing Invasive Species in the Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary project;

¯ Thunder Bay Transportation Authority — $2,000 for the Community Area Transport project;

¯ United Way of Northeast Michigan — $3,000 for the Building the “Beloved Community” of Rev. Dr. M.L. King Jr. in Northeast Michigan project;

¯ Village of Lincoln — $2,303 for the Flights of Imagination Playground Wood Fiber Surface project.

The Community Foundation also approved $31,073 through the 14th annual round of Northeast Michigan Women’s Giving Circle grants. These grants are reviewed and recommended annually by a committee of 10 WGC members who serve two-year terms. WGC grants are awarded for issues important to the women of northeast Michigan from the WGC Endowment Fund.

¯ Shelter, Inc./Hope Shores Alliance — $1,500 for the Alternate Supplies and Pathways to Healing project.

The next opportunity for submitting grant applications is through the Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council for youth programs in Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency and/or Presque Isle counties.
